PDP condemns attempts to politicize Sanusi’s suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned what it called attempts by certain individuals and groups to politicize the suspension of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido, by President Goodluck Jonathan. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, on Sunday, the PDP said the issues leading to Mr. Sanusi's suspension strictly bordered on the management of the nation's economy, urging Nigerians to disregard those attempting to politicize or introduce sentiments into the matter. The ruling party said it had "implicit confidence in President Goodluck Jonathan and his efforts to ensure the stability and growth of the economy" adding that the decision was in the best interest of the nation." It dismissed insinuations that the suspension was aimed at silencing a whistle blower and promoting corruption.
"After thorough analysis of the issues surrounding the suspension, it was clear that the decision was in tandem with the commitment of the Federal Government to safeguard the CBN and the entire financial sector from abuses." It stated that the findings of the Financial Reporting Council revealed series of administrative recklessness in the CBN which are "very weighty and cannot be swept under the carpet of politics and sentiments." The ruling party dismissed suggestions that the suspension would negatively affect the economy, saying it had restored confidence in the financial sector and in Government's ability to check abuses harmful to the system. It urged Nigerians not to be cajoled by those seeking to play politics with the matter and that Mr. Sanusi should have nothing to fear if he had no skeleton in his cupboard.

Court Dissolves Pastor’s 5-year-old Marriage Over Infidelity

An Abeokuta Customary Court on Thursday dissolved a five- year-old marriage between Pastor Samuel Oniyide, 42, and his wife, Kabirat, saying it was obvious they no longer loved each other. The pastor had asked the court to dissolve the marriage, accusing his wife of disrespectfulness and infidelity; claims which the respondent denied. Despite the denial, however, the respondent consented to the dissolution of the marriage, saying she was tired of the union.
