NUJ laments hike in petrol price

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Zone – B has decried the sales of petrol above the approved pump price in some parts of the country as highly illegal and unfortunate. In a statement issued by its Vice-President, Dele Atunbi in Akure, Ondo State Capital, the zone described the development as criminal. The NUJ observed with concern that criminal activities of petroleum dealers are being carried out with impunity. It pointed out that Nigeria as a major stakeholder in oil production should not degenerate to the level of having long queues in filling stations across the country. The Union explained that the man hours being used on the queues will have adverse effects on the economy of the nation as well as the productivity of the workforce. It attributes the latest long queues of vehicles in filling stations and the sales of fuel above the approved pump price to policy somersault and lack of adequate planning. The Union challenged all the regulatory agencies in the oil sector to be up and doing and safe Nigerians from the ongoing extortion by petroleum dealers. It counsel the Federal Government to make petroleum products available in all parts of the country. The NUJ said governance is all about making life more meaningful to the governed, hence all hands must be on deck to check the ugly trend in the interest of Nigerians. It posited that those engaging themselves in the illegal business should be made to face the full wrath of the law for sabotaging the nation's economy.

Court Dissolves Pastor’s 5-year-old Marriage Over Infidelity

An Abeokuta Customary Court on Thursday dissolved a five- year-old marriage between Pastor Samuel Oniyide, 42, and his wife, Kabirat, saying it was obvious they no longer loved each other. The pastor had asked the court to dissolve the marriage, accusing his wife of disrespectfulness and infidelity; claims which the respondent denied. Despite the denial, however, the respondent consented to the dissolution of the marriage, saying she was tired of the union. Dissolving the marriage, the President of the Court, Olalekan Akande said it was obvious that love no longer existed between the couple. He, however, said that the welfare of the two female children of the couple was of importance to the court.
